CP’s STATEWIDE ART CONTEST WINNER NAMED
Geill Shippee, representing Cerebral Palsy Associations of New York State (CP of NYS) Affiliate Cerebral Palsy of the North Country in Canton, is the winner of the 2017 CP of NYS IMAGINE Art Contest. This is the 14th year of the contest which highlights artwork created by people with disabilities from CP of NYS Affiliates across the state. Ms. Shippee’s winning entry will be the centerpiece of the annual commemorative poster featuring artwork from CP of NYS Affiliates from across the state. She will be recognized at the CP of NYS Annual Conference Keynote Luncheon on Monday, October 30 at the Hilton Hotel in downtown Saratoga Springs.
Each Affiliate will receive a copy of the poster and Ms. Shippee will receive a plaque and a framed copy of the poster at the luncheon. Heidi Schroder, from the Center for Disability Services in Albany and a group of students from the Art History/Color Theory Class, at Hudson Valley Cerebral Palsy in Patterson were named runners-up in the statewide competition.
GOVERNOR CUOMO ANNOUNCES $18.7 MILLION TO STRENGTHEN HEALTH CARE IN THE FINGER LAKES REGION
CP Rochester Among Six Finger Lakes-Area Award Recipients
New York State has awarded $18.7 million to support six projects that will protect and transform the Finger Lakes Region health care system. As part of the $491 million Statewide Health Care Facility Transformation Program, this funding will improve patient care through the development of high-quality medical facilities and programs serving the inpatient, primary care, mental health, substance use disorder and long-term care needs of communities throughout New York State.
“Now, more than ever, we need to protect health care in New York and ensure the system in place is meeting the needs of current and future generations of New Yorkers,” Governor Cuomo said.
The following providers will receive funding:

The funding was awarded under the Statewide Health Care Facility Transformation Program, which was enacted as part of the 2017 NYS Budget. Additional funding was made available in the recently enacted 2018 Budget.
The program is administered by the Department of Health and the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York and will help support the objectives of the Delivery System Reform Incentive Program (DSRIP). The purpose of the Delivery System Reform Incentive Program is to reduce health care costs and improve the health outcomes of New Yorkers. The primary goal of DSRIP is to reduce avoidable hospital visits by 25 percent by 2020. The Statewide Health Care Facility Transformation Program awards also focus on projects which will help ensure the financial sustainability of safety net healthcare providers and the preservation or expansion of essential health care services.
MORAN NAMED NEW CEO AT CARE DESIGN NY LLC
Jim Moran has accepted the position of Chief Executive Officer at Care Design, a new Care Coordination/Health Home organization expected to coordinate care for thousands of people across a large part of New York State.
Jim has been working as a consultant to Cerebral Palsy Associations of NYS for the past four years and has been enormously helpful to the Affiliates and others in developing innovative ideas that have streamlined Affiliate operations and guided state policy. His leadership on rate rationalization has helped ensure services could continue in all parts of the state and the results of his efforts have had immeasurable benefit for the entire field.
In his new role, he will oversee the operations of Care Design beginning in September, and we know he will continue to be a resource for all the CCO’s in the State as they begin operation.

UPSTATE CP’S ROOT FARM ADDS ACCESSIBLE ROPES COURSE
The Root Farm at Upstate Cerebral Palsy has a new Challenge Course. It is one of a kind and the developer has said that it is the only fully accessible Ropes Course in the country. People are placed in a harness and they can complete the full course, regardless of ability. Root Farm Executive Director Jeremy Earl, pictured below, was one of the first to complete the course. A special device called the Action TrackChair is being used to take people to the course if needed, providing opportunities for people who would never dream of the possibility of being safely transported 40 feet off the ground!

METRO SERVICES PHOTOGRAPHER HONORED AT PRESTIGIOUS PHOTO CONTEST
Sharee Jones, representing West Farms Photo Works and CP of NYS Metro Services, has won third prize at this year’s Voice! 13 Art Show. In addition to a certificate, Sharee will receive a check for $200.
Voice! is an annual statewide art show sponsored by Arc Otsego in Oneonta. Sharee is the second West Farms Photo Works photographer to win an award at Voice! in the past two years.
Congratulations also to Cissy Stavropolis, representing the Progressive Visions Photo Club for her participation in the show.

JAWONIO SUMMER EDUCATION PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTED
More than 100 children from the Jawonio summer education program were featured on News 12 recently. Everyone sang and danced at the annual event, which is the highlight of the summer for everyone involved.

PROVISIONS EXPRESS EXPANDING
Provisions Bakery & Restaurant, a program of CP of NYS Affiliate Access CNY, is expanding and opening a new location at the Community Library of DeWitt & Jamesville. The new venture, called Provisions Express, will feature freshly brewed coffee and baked goods for those visiting the library. Provisions Express will open on August 26 as part of the new library.
Located in Armory Square in downtown Syracuse, Provisions is a non-profit bakery and restaurant. The bakery is a supported work program of AccessCNY for individuals with a mental health issue. The Express location marks the bakery’s first expansion since opening in 1988. For more on this new venture please visit the AccessCNY website HERE.
ELKS HELP FUND NEW WHEELS FOR INSPIRE
CP Affiliate Inspire of Orange County recently purchased a new Home Service vehicle with the help of one of three $10,000 grants from the NYS Elks Association. This is just one example of how the Elks support the CP of NYS Affiliate organizations.
